Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body. It runs from your low back, through your hip and buttocks, and down each leg. The term sciatica refers to pain that radiates down along the path of this nerve.

Sciatica is caused by pressure on the nerve of your low back. The most common cause of nerve compression is from from a bulging or herniated lumbar disc. It may also be caused from muscle spasm in the gluteal region which is a response to nerve compression in the lumbar joints.

Most of the time, sciatic pain can be relieved through a combination of stretches and chiropractic care. Dr. DelPlato will perform a thorough evaluation to determine the cause of your sciatica and treatment plan to reduce the pressure on the nerve.
