There are numerous causes of shoulder pain. An irritated nerve in your neck, repeated overuse, or an injury, can cause inflammation and stiffness and make everyday activities painful. The rotator cuff muscles do much of the work of the shoulder. Painful motion results when these muscles become strained or their tendons inflamed, which is called tendonitis.
Following a thorough exam to determine the cause of shoulder pain, treatment usually includes some heat/ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and massage. Dr. DelPlato will adjust any restrictions in the upper spine that are frequently associated with shoulder injuries. Treatment will also include specific home stretches and strengthening exercises to speed the recovery process.
